Celebrating the Keepers of Knowledge: Happy National Librarian Day!

April 16th marks a special day for book lovers and knowledge seekers everywhere: National Librarian Day! It’s a day to celebrate the incredible individuals who dedicate their lives to connecting us with information, stories, and community. And let’s be honest, where would we be without them?

Librarians are so much more than just people who check out books. They are, Knowledge Navigators (our trusted guides), Community Builders (fostering connection), and Guardians of Stories (keeping them safe and accessible).

Library poetry

The below poem was originally published in my novel in verse, The Complete Book of Aspen. Sixteen year old, Aspen, a lover of books, had just been dealt a big blow when she learns her late dad was not her biological father. As she struggles with her identity and her world comes tumbling down around her, she retreats to her school’s library, her home away from home:

Lunch in the Library

This is my refuge,
my cozy den,
where characters live
and welcome me in.

It's my well and my garden,
the place where I go
to quench my thirst
and feed my soul.

Five things we can do to support librians

  • Visit your local library and thank your librarians.
  • Donate books to your library.
  • Volunteer your time to support library programs.
  • Share a post on social media to show your appreciation for librarians.
  • Simply enjoy a book from your favorite library.

Let’s show our librarians how much we value their dedication and passion for knowledge!
