Burial Day: A Free Verse Poem

My sisters and I buried our mother on January 6th, two years ago. So, she’s been on my mind more than usual. Today, I want to share the poem I wrote in her memory. May she continue to rest in peace. <3

Burial Day

January 6th,
Mom's burial day
circles around.

The grass
still shows its scars
like an old wound.

Three small flowerpots
sit side by grave side—
three daughters grieving.

Don't be sad,
rejoice
a long life lived.

She is with us
in a rushing river,
in a symphony of birdsong,
in the loving lines of a poem.

  1. Lovely! What a nice way to remember your mother. I lost my mother several years ago, and I miss her every day. Maybe I should write a poem about her! She was always my biggest champion.
