Welcoming spring with a poem & new book!

In the United States, spring began March 21st but depending on where you live, the bulbs may still be sleeping beneath the ground. For me, spring begins the moment I see my neighbor’s apricot tree blooming white popcorn blossoms.

Here in Northern California, that’s usually around mid to late February. The garden is my happy place so when spring has sprung, I can’t help but to go outside with my notebook and write about it! I hope you enjoy my latest poem below, and that it gets you ready to welcome blossoms in your part of the world.

I’m also excited to share my new garden picture book with you! Rooftop Garden is about a community coming together to plant an urban garden. It’s a singalong book. It’s out now so be prepared to get your dance on! You can read more about it below. Happy Spring!

Rooftop Garden

Written by Danna Smith

Illustrated by Pati Aguilera

Sung by Holly Turton

A group of city friends work diligently together to grow herbs and vegetables in a rooftop garden. Set to a foot-tappin’ original tune, this rhythmic, rhyming story will have kids singing enthusiastically about the six stages of plant growth. The story concludes with a summer harvest and feast that celebrates the gardeners’ commitment. Includes singalong audio and video animation. Read more about it, reserve your copy, and watch the full animated video and song here.
