Found poetry is the literary version of a collage. The poems are made up of words taken from a printed document like a newspaper article, a speech, or in this case, a book, Where the Wild Things Are. The poet selects words from the document and rearranges them to create a unique poem.

As you can see below, my poem for adults takes on a very different subject matter and tone:

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

Wave good-bye,
sail the ocean,
start a rumpus,
make mischief 
of one kind or another.
Days
weeks,
a year
Eat the world up!

Now stop. 
Be still.
Tame the wild.
Good things are waiting,
far away,
across the ocean.
Wave good-bye,
sail back,
a year,
weeks,
and a day….

to someone who loves you so—
best thing of all.
